Weekend Sundries

24th June 2013

What is a weekend? Ah, Downton Abbey. Such great one-liners. If you were to look at what I did this weekend, wait, what am I saying, I’ll just show you my slightly busy weekend.

pg6My whole family – Mom, Dad, sis, sis’s boyfriend, and I have been working to get my grandmother’s house sold. It’s been so much work, but cross your fingers that the pending sale will happen. We ripped up carpet and encountered a huge mess. Ancient underlayment with latex on top and ridges. All we had to do was put down cheap vinyl tile, but it wouldn’t stick. We applied solvent and attempted to get this stuff up, but it wasn’t cooperating.

This ended in a late-night run to Home Depot and serious consideration on pouring concrete just to get rid of the mess. Friday I stayed up late Googling possible options. It was not fun.

pg1This is something you never want to see inside a house.

Thankfully, we think we have another option, so instead we headed outside to paint some wood my sis and her boyfriend replaced. And since we discovered that we didn’t need to spend all day tiling, I called up a friend who was out of town and asked to borrow his pool. ๐Ÿ™‚

pg3Her Highness did not appreciate getting wet. Apparently, she thinks it ruins her ‘do.

Also, when you’re blind in both eyes, walking into the pool unexpectedly is no fun.

pg2My mom’s dog, on the other hand, is the intrepid explorer of the family (she gets that from me).

She was on the hunt for a lizard or some such other creepy crawler.

pg4And someone is, apparently, not the responsible adult she thinks she is and went sans sunscreen.

Yes, this is me with my completely amazing, trendy new sunglasses tan.

Sunday was spent heading to church to listen to my dad in his choir.

Then I went to the gym and did 100 squats (!) and various other exercises. I had lunch with the fam and yesterday evening, I went to my friends’ house and watched HGTV Star with this adorable pup sprawled out with his daddy-o. Adorable.

How was your weekend?

  • Andi

Looks like a great weekend — aside from the under carpet mess. Ack!

    • It was! You know Texas – if I’m not in a pool, I’m not happy. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Old homes aways present such surprises during renovations! Sounda like you had a great weekend in every other regard though!

    • I most definitely did. Any weekend where a pool is involved is a win in my book.

  • Puppies!

    • I know! So sweet. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Even though it wasn’t fun, it’s nice helping Grandma! And I hope you learned your sunscreen lesson! No skin cancer, please.

BTW, such cute puppies, I can’t resist!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

    • I did learn my lesson! All in all, it was a fun weekend, though.

  • That’s not a fun weekend – sounds a lot like the work we have cut up for us here which is to clean the backyard and get it photo ready. The dogs look so cuddly!

    • Ugh. My yard is a mess, too. Yardwork is not fun.

  • Coffee & a BookChick

Wow, you were busy!! Argh, doesn’t sound fun, but for a good thing to do ๐Ÿ™‚

    • It wasn’t, but the rest of the weekend was actually great.

  • Oh my, I’ve certainly done my fair share of carpet ripping and floor scraping, but I can’t imagine doing it to a house I wasn’t going to live in. At least you got the cute puppies as a consolation prize!

    • Haha! Yes, the puppies and the pool were definitely good consolation prizes.

  • Meagan Ravey

Are you kidding!? I applied over fifty spf water/sweat proof sunscreen TWICE while we resided that house and still my shoulders and back were burnt. And now peeling. So it wouldn’t have mattered if you were a responsible adult or not. Texas sun is brutal.

    • I feel much better knowing that. ๐Ÿ™‚

And does my face look ridiculous or what?

      • Meagan Ravey

I figured you would. Haha it’s amazing. Just be thankful you went with the big pair.

  • We had that stuff under our flooring, too! I remember when my parents tried to replace the old vinyl in the kitchen we spend weeks chipping it off. It was such a pita.

    • Oh my gosh, it’s the worst.

  • Jennifer Hartling

No thanks on the flooring business ๐Ÿ˜‰ That doesn’t sound like fun at all. Ah well, time with the family is always good though right? Your poor face, hope it doesn’t hurt!!

    • No pain, thankfully. And yes, overall, it was a great weekend.

  • Charlie

Poor Maddie, though more so, ouch! That’s quite a burn you got. Aftersun to the rescue? Glad you came up with a solution to the flooring.

    • I know, my poor baby. I’m fine. It’s actually turned to tan, so I haven’t been in pain, thankfully.

  • The very first picture made me feel all anxious–I knew that story was going nowhere good. Did you guys figure out what to do with it?

    • Ha! Yeah, nothing good there. We ended up negotiating with buyers and are putting carpet. Cross your fingers for us.
