My poor little blog. I’ve abandoned it the last two weeks. Last week was work. This week…my dad’s Christmas present has kept me tied up. A few weeks ago I showed you the inspiration for his Man Cave. Well, after trying to pin him down about the color, I finally asked if he would rather have his garage fixed up (a lot of the homes in my parents’ neighborhood do this), and he suddenly got all into it. So. He wanted taupe. I wanted to do a stripe, and my mom suggested University of Texas burnt orange, as orange is his favorite color and the Longhorns is favorite team. It was all systems go after that. Keep in mind that the garage had boxes floor to ceiling.
So there was a LOT of clearing out to do. My sis and I actually pulled everything out of the garage a couple times to rearrange it. It was like a puzzle because a ton of stuff was tossed or given to Goodwill, but there was also a lot that my parents want to try to sell. After several full days, though, we cleared 3/4 of the garage and got to work painting. I had read great things about Frog Tape, so I made sure to pick some up, and let me tell you – it’s money. Seriously – I don’t use painter’s tape anymore because it always bleeds so badly, and I’ve learned to cut in without it. However, doing a stripe free hand is not on my list of “fun things to do,” and this tape made it much simpler and cleaner. No touch ups! I was shocked and awed.
My dad was once upon a time a grocery store manager and has a pretty large collection of neon beer lights and beer/wine mirrors. He’s had them for over 30 years but has never gotten to display them. We wanted to highlight them and make this a space for poker, darts, and (maybe one day) watching football. Here’s the semi-finished product:
The big reveal is Christmas Day, and I. Can’t. Wait. Seriously, my sister has had to stop me a couple of times. Plus, he’s like a kid on …Christmas. He is so excited, but not more than I am. 😉
Merry Christmas guys! Hope someone has done something extra special for you this year.
